FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: intelligent electronic device (IED) generates network messages which are transmitted using (or belonging to) a defined configurable communication service SA. Several scenarios corresponding to high communication load are executed on the application level. Among all network messages which are captured or intercepted during a scenario, network messages meant for the IED and sent from the IED in response are identified. The number of identified messages is determined, as well as the number of elements of a defined communication protocol or data elements associated to a property specific for a service and the number of changed protocol elements which indicate an SA event, for which the value of the data element changed compared to the value of the same data element in the previous event. The time for processing identified messages typical for the IED is also determined, based on what parameter values which are specific for the processing time model service are calculated.
EFFECT: real-time prediction of communication characteristics in the communication network of a substation automation system with multiple intelligent electronic devices.
