FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: pumping radiation pulse generates population inversion inside an active element which is a large cross sectional area disc made in form of a monolithic block with short resonator mirrors. Generation in the short resonator is suppressed. A photon field which is phased through a diffraction connection is generated in the short resonator using an external resonator. When saturation level is achieved, the mirror of the external resonator is simultaneously switched off and the Q-factor of the short resonator is switched on and laser radiation is output in form of an ultrashort pulse. Besides the said active element, the device also includes a diode pumping source for the active element, a cooling system, an electrooptical modulator, a film polariser, a lens and an external convex mirror with 100% coefficient of reflection at generation wavelength. The convex mirror is used with a 100% mirror in the external resonator. The electrooptical modulator is necessary for switching off the said convex mirror of the external resonator. Radiation is output from the short resonator through the film polariser and lens.

EFFECT: prevention of radiation focusing inside the resonator, and danger of failure of optical elements, and prevention of delay of pulse generation and uncertainty during its onset.
