FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: method of determining the starch content on glucose content taking into account individual conversion factor relates to agriculture and can be used in breeding and seed growing of starch plants (potato, onion, beans and cereals) to identify varietal and species differences, as well as to assess the quality of raw materials on the content of starch for food, distilling, and pharmaceutical industries. In the proposed method starch is extracted from a sample of plant material, purified from impurities, dried and subjected to acid hydrolysis to glucose, which content is defined colorimetrically according to the intensity of colour change of solution due to chemical interaction with picric acid in alkaline medium by heating in a boiling water bath. Calculation of glucose content in starch is carried out on the calibration curve in comparison with control solution and the results obtained are used to calculate individual rate conversion of glucose into starch by the formula: where A is content of glucose in starch (%), and starch content in the sample (%) = K×A.

EFFECT: proposed method enables to determine more accurately the amount of starch in plant material, it is relatively simple, fast and reliable.
