FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal forming. Billet is clamped in one or two clamping heads of manipulators and squeezed by two pairs of opposed hammers. Then the billet is transferred along lengthwise axis and/or turned about said axis and squeezed to produce preset size forged piece. In squeezing, top hammer moves vertically downward toward bottom stationary hammer. Two lateral hammers move downward and toward each other. Note here that direction of each lateral hammer makes with direction of top hammer the angle of 45 degrees or that approximating thereto. Simultaneously, manipulator clamping head is turned to create shifting force for billet sections. Note also that centre of symmetry of the billet part cross section, clamped in said head, displaces relative to centre of symmetry of billet part cross section clamped by hammers. Shift is directed downward and toward one of lateral hammers. Force of said hammer counteracts the camping force of manipulator head.
EFFECT: forged pieces with dense macrostructure over entire cross section.
