FIELD: chemistry; biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biotechnology, particularly microbiology. The Rhodosporidium diobovatum VKPM Y - 3159 strain is cultured on a culture medium containing sources of carbon, nitrogen and mineral salts for 72 hours. Biomass containing carotenoids in amount 5.0-6.5 mg/g of dry biomass is obtained, including β-carotene in amount of 3.0-4.5 mg/g of dry biomass.
EFFECT: wider range of yeast strains which produce carotenoids with higher specific productivity, possibility of growing the strain on such cheap substrates as distillery stillage and fermentolysate of plant wastes.
