SUBSTANCE: device for encoding N audio signals into M audio signals and associated parametric data N>M, M≥1 is designed. A multichannel audio encoding device (10) has a first and a second encoding unit (110, 120). The first unit (110) encodes a multichannel audio signal (101) into spatial information (102) and first associated parametric data (104), which enable a mutichannel decoding device (20) to reconstruct the multichannel audio signal (203) into spatial information (102). The second unit (120) generates second associated parametric data (105) from the spatial information (102), where said second associated parametric data enable the decoding device to reconstruct spatial information (202) from alternative information (103), for example art information, which can be mixed in an audio studio. In the decoding device (20), spatial information (202) is reconstructed from alternative information (103) and second associated parametric data (105), and the spatial information (202) is then decoded to obtain a multichannel audio signal (203).
EFFECT: high quality of reconstructed multichannel signal.
