SUBSTANCE: invention relates to gad discharge engineering and can be used in water and air treatment, as well as for increasing efficiency of internal combustion engines. the ioniser based on non-stationary avalanche breakdown is a blown cylindrical ionisation chamber with two coaxial needle electrodes. The electrodes are connected to a pulsed high voltage source, the parameters and mode of operation of which are provided by creating non-stationary avalanche breakdown between the spikes of the electrodes. Layers of mirror coatings made from materials which reflect ultraviolet and X-ray radiation are formed on the inner surface of the chamber.

EFFECT: high ionisation efficiency.
