FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of making extremely light concrete aggregates from widely used mining wastes. The crude mixture for making light concrete aggregates contains the following in wt %: wastes from processing granites with grain size of 80-120 mcm 96-98.5, non-abrasive silicon carbide mud with grain size of not more than 60 mcm 1.5-4. The method of producing light concrete aggregates from the said mixture includes homogenisation through successive multi-step mixing of initial components, where at the first step all the silicon carbide mud is mixed with an equal weighted amount of wastes form processing granites, and on each next step, an equal weighted amount of wastes from processing granites is added to the homogenous mixture. The mixture is then moistened to 2% moisture and pressed at pressure 3-4 MPa to obtain raw granules, after which the granules are roasted at temperature 1180-1210°C in order to expand them.
EFFECT: obtaining cheap aggregates with packed density of 205-310 kg/m3 and closed porosity which ensures low water absorption.
