SUBSTANCE: to achieve the technical result, a method is realised for encoding two dimensional digital multimedia data, involving steps on which: two-dimensional digital multimedia data are entered and compressed into a compressed stream using overlapping transformation, where compression includes: division of two-dimensional digital multimedia data into macroblocks, application of a reversible two-dimensional overlap operator to a first array of digital multimedia data, which is shifted in both directions - the horizontal and vertical, from the borders of the macroblocks, and a reversible two-dimensional block transform is applied to a second array of digital multimedia data which is levelled with borders of the macroblocks. Application of the reversible two-dimensional overlap operator and the reversible two-dimensional block transformation jointly performs overlapping transformation of two-dimensional digital multimedia data.

EFFECT: higher reversible lossless data compression.
