FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to making porous carbonaceous sorbents. The sorbent is made from sapropel, has total pore volume of 0.3-2.5 cm3/g, contains 20-60 wt % carbon and 40-80 wt % mineral component which contains 35-68 wt % SiO2, average pore radius is equal to 100-500 nm, wherein pores with radius 100-500 nm make up 50-70% of the total pore volume. The method of making the sorbent involves thermal treatment of organo-silica or silica sapropel with ratio SiO2/CaO>2 for 1-2 hours in a non-oxidising medium at temperature 300-700°C.
EFFECT: increase in sorption capacity of average sized and large molecule.
