FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Chloroplatinic acid is treated with sodium hydroxide in molar ratio NaOH: Pt between 10 and 14. Concentration of Pt in the reaction mixture is equal to 0.4-0.6 mol/l. The mixture is heated while boiling to yellow colour, cooled, the precipitate formed is filtered and dissolved in water. The solution is treated with an acid which does not contain a chlorine-ion, for example acetic or nitric acid at temperature not higher than 50°C to pH 2.0-4.5. The precipitate of platinum (IV) oxide formed is filtered, washed with water and dried.

EFFECT: invention enables to obtain platinum (IV) oxide with low content of chlorine and sodium impurities.
