FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing glass-like transparent coating, characterised by optical transparency and effective protection from gas permeation. The method of obtaining a glass-like transparent coating on a substrate is realised by depositing onto the substrate a solution which contains a) polysilazane of formula -(SiR'R"-NR'")n-, where R', R, R'" are identical or different radicals and independently denote hydrogen or optionally substituted alkyl radicals, aryl radical, vinyl radical or (trialkoxysilyl)alkyl radical, where n is an integer or is calculated based on that the polysilazen has average molecular weight between 150 and 150000 g/mol, and b) a catalyst (for example, a basic catalyst) in an organic solvent. The solvent is removed through evaporation such that a polysilazane layer having thickness of 0.05-3.0 mcm remains on the substrate. The said layer is then exposed to vacuum UV radiation having wavelength shorter than 230 nm, and UV radiation having wavelength between 230 and 300 nm in an atmosphere which contains water vapour in the presence of oxygen, active oxygen and optionally nitrogen. The method enables to deposit a coating, dry and carry out oxidative conversion through exposure of the polysilazane layer on the plastic film in one working pass, roll by roll.

EFFECT: coatings obtained using the said method are characterised by high resistance to gas- and water vapour permeation.
