FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of producing fire resistant alkali-earth silicate fibre from molten mass involves using an alkali metal as a predetermined component to improve mechanical properties of the fibre compared to fibre in which no alkali metal is used. The fibre contains M2O, in which M denotes an alkali metal and in which either 65% < SiO2, 13.5% < CaO < 27.5%, 72% < SiO2 + ZrO2 + B2O3 + 5P2O5, M2O > 0.5%, or 75% < SiO2, 13.8% < CaO < 27.8%, 75% < SiO2 + ZrO2 + B2O3 + 5P2O5 and M2O > 0.2%.
EFFECT: improved mechanical and thermal properties of the fibre.
