SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a fibre-forming glass composition and fibres made of it, which can be used in the form of yarns, roving, yarns, woven or non-woven fabrics, particularly in the composition of polymer composites. Fibre-forming glass composition contains (wt.%): 25-41 vitreous mineral (perlite, pumice or mixtures thereof), at least 5 sodium source, and in addition a source of silicon oxide, aluminium oxide or aluminosilicate. In this case, the chemical composition of the fibre is an aluminosilicate composition containing, wt.%: 53-64 SiO2, 8-12 Al2O3, 8.5-18 alkali metal oxide R2O and alkaline earth metal oxide RO at a mass ratio R2O/RO ratio of more than 1.5 to 1.7.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is the production of new glass compositions having a reduced density without deterioration of mechanical properties resistant to acid and alkali corrosion.
