FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for producing flexible graphite foil, sorbents and fire-resistant materials. Dispersion graphite and 12-48% aqueous copper nitrate solution are put into an electrolysis cell. Graphite undergoes anodic oxidation at constant potential of 2.3-2.6 V and electric quantity of 100-150 mA·h/g of graphite. The obtained oxidised graphite is dried and thermally treated at temperature 250 °C or 900 °C until thermal expanded graphite is obtained.
EFFECT: invention lowers amount of electricity consumed when producing thermal expanded graphite with low packed density, increases environmental safety of the process.
