FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: initial powder-like graphite is processed with oxidising solution, containing the following components in ratio, g/g of graphite: sulphuric acid 2.0-5.0; ammonium nitrate 0.04-0.15; carbamide 0.04-0.15. Solution components are mixed at temperature 0-7°C, in the process of graphite oxidation temperature in reactor is supported not higher than 20°C. After that hydrolysis by hydrothermal processing with water vapour for 5-15 minutes, washing and drying are realised.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce bulk density of thermally-expanded graphite, specific consumption of sulphuric acid, reduce number of technological operations and time of graphite oxidation 2 times.
