FIELD: chemistry, technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: natural graphite powder is subjected to anode electrolytic processing in water solution of aluminium salts with potential not less than 2V with imparting electricity amount not less than 25mA·hour/g of graphite. 5-40% water solutions of aluminium nitrates, sulfates and chlorides are used. After electrochemical processing aluminium metahydroxide is sedimented by adding to electrolyte water ammonium solution in amount sufficient to obtain solution pH 8-9, heating it to 80-100°C. Then hard phase is separated from solution and dried. Material based on oxidised graphite with expansion degree not less than 150, containing modifying additive of aluminium metahydroxide in amount 1-14% in terms of Al2O3, is obtained.

EFFECT: invention allows to reduce energy loss, carbon consumption and output of cancerogenous substances in aluminium production due to increase of electroconductivity of anode carbon material and binding agent coke residue.
