SUBSTANCE: method of treating carbon-bearing fuel with a sorbent which contains calcium nitrate or nitrite. The sorbent is added to the carbon-bearing fuel and the fuel is burnt together with the sorbent. Versions of the method are also disclosed.

EFFECT: invention provides higher degree of trapping sulphur compounds and minimisation of slagging and ash deposit.
