FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of analysing a vibration event involves obtaining a vibration signal. The vibration signal event is picked up in the vibration signal. The frequency of the characteristic attenuation sinusoidal function is determined, which best coincides with the frequency of the obtained vibration signal, using a physical signal analyser, which has a signal regulation and analysis unit and a display and control unit. The signal regulation and analysis unit is designed to generate a characteristic attenuation sinusoidal function which is applied to the signal, and to identify the vibration event in the signal which corresponds to the said sinusoidal function. An image is then formed on the display, which shows the identified vibration events. The said attenuation sinusoidal function is used to characterise the vibration signal event, and the characteristic attenuation sinusoidal function is used to identify the onset of a vibration signal event in another vibration signal following the identified vibration signal event.
