FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves using a laser and a multi-element photodetector to record the time dependence of the angle of deviation of the pendulum from the equilibrium position during free damped oscillations. The signal from the photodetector is converted to digital and input into a computer. Frequency and the damping constant are calculated simultaneously with recording by counting the number of sampling intervals of the digital signal within each period of the sinusoid and the damping decrement relative the amplitude of neighbouring sinusoids, with averaging of the calculated parameters on all periods of the damped oscillations, and analysis of their amplitude characteristics is carried out at the end of all measurements based on digital patterns of the damped oscillations of the pendulum, stored in computer memory during the measurement process.
EFFECT: invention increases measurement rapidness.
