SUBSTANCE: method can be realised by a stand-alone radar set mounted on a ship when there is completely no radar reflection from the object but only a trace - anomaly on the sea surface. Before detecting the anomaly on the sea surface, the average inclination of large waves of the sea surface - propagation speed of the surface (wind) waves of the sea surface - Vsw, and the propagation speed of sound waves over the sea surface - νs are determined. After detecting the trace, the range to the front of the trace Dfr and the bearing to the front of the trace Pfr are determined using a radar technique. The width of the trace is measured via radar range strobing - The course of the object Cob is determined by the spatial orientation of the trace. The velocity of the object Vob is determined from the displacement of the front of the trace. The course angle from the front of the trace to the radar set βfr is determined from the bearing to the front of the trace Pfr and the course of the object Cob. The range to the object and bearing is calculated based on the known wavelength of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the radar set and the angle of slide when irradiating the sea surface with the radar set (Ψ).
