FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing linear α-olefins via oligomerisation of ethylene in the presence of a primary organic solvent and a homogenous catalyst in a reactor, where the top part of the reactor is cooled using a coolant, characterised by that temperature in the top part of the reactor is kept at 15-20°C. The catalyst contains a zirconium salt of an organic acid and at least one organoaluminium compound. The method is implemented in the presence of at least one cooling medium added to the reactor, which condenses at the top of the reactor and repeatedly evaporates at the bottom of the reactor. The cooling medium is selected from a second inert organic solvent whose boiling point is at least 120°C at atmospheric pressure.
EFFECT: use of the method improves removal of heat from the reactor while also significantly reducing gas consumption of the cooling cycle, which preserves equipment and reduces power consumption.
