SUBSTANCE: unified format is acceptable and extensible so that other management languages can be transcoded into the unified format. Rights management information can be converted to metadata of the unified storage for use in the unified storage system. Constructing a data object, which includes data and rights management information, involves transcoding primary data in the unified storage format and transcoding rights management information from any number of platforms into the rights management format used by the unified storage platform. Transcoding can take place in a transaction-based definition so that during failure of completion, data are not corrupted or lost, and also so that it is possible to return to the initial state if the completion process is unsuccessful.
EFFECT: extension of unified storage with a unified schema in order to provide a uniform procedure when managing rights on different types of rights management systems.
