FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: procedure for detection of liquid hydrocarbon leaks from mains consists in measurement of pressure and liquid flow rate at ends of controlled section of pipeline, in determination of pressure distribution along length of section of said pipeline during specified time interval corresponding to time of pressure wave passing in controlled section, and in calculation of value of mean square difference between found distributions of pressure for each point of controlled section. Cross section of a leak is stipulated by minimal value of the said difference.
EFFECT: raised reliability for record of leaks both under stationary and non-stationary modes of pipeline operation due to consideration of character of non-stabilised transient flows of liquid in pipeline.
