FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: procedure consists in recording value of process parameter during melting, in comparing value of process parameter with threshold value, and in generation of command to actuating mechanism. As a process parameter there is chosen coefficient of melt purity expressed as function of argument of ratio of area of heat image of non metallic compounds particles on surface on the liquid metal bath and area of heat image of surface of liquid metal bath measured with a thermo-graphic device in infra-red spectre of heat radiation. Coefficient of melt purity is determined separately in each zone of a melting reservoir.
EFFECT: reduced penetration of particles of non-metallic compounds present on surface of melt into cast metal work-piece during crystallisation in crystalliser; increased output of accepted production due to elimination of operation of work-piece surface turning.
