FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method relates to thermometry and specifically to heat indicating compositions designed to determine temperature in the working volume of furnaces or on the surface of hot metallic components without premature ignition of the said composition and with low dependence of ignition point on the composition of the mixture and quality of components. The inflammable composition used in the method is aluminium and nickel metal powder which form nickel aluminides NixAly during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. Synthesis is carried out in thermal explosion mode and metals are taken in the following amounts, wt %: aluminium powder 13-58, nickel powder - the rest. Use of the disclosed method enables reliable display of a temperature close to 660°C.

EFFECT: avoiding premature ignition of the heat indicting composition, low dependence of the ignition point on the composition of the mixture and quality of components, and wider range of possible heat indication.
