FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: when generating non-radioactive ionising radiation (28) in a well, which enables generation of reflected radiation, particularly X-ray and/or gamma radiation, into the surrounding well (3) of the formation (5), the following steps are performed: laser radiation (14) is generated; the laser radiation is directed into a multi-stage laser radiation amplifier (12); laser radiation is excited using a laser radiation source (13) of the laser pumping type with generation of pulsed laser radiation (14a), wherein the incoming energy of the laser radiation is concentrated in limited laser radiation pulses, the amount of laser radiation energy of which is greater than the amount of energy of the continuous stream of the laser radiation (14); a bunch (16, 32) of free electrons is formed in a vacuum chamber (15); the pulsed laser radiation (14a) is focused at the bunch (16, 32) of free electrons to form a field (wakefield) of electrons subjected to pulsed action, which, during generation of deceleration radiation, emit ionising radiation (28) into the surrounding formation (5), that way generating in the surrounding formation (5) high-energy reflected radiation in the frequency band of X-ray and/or gamma radiation.

EFFECT: eliminating radiation hazard associated with use of radioactive isotopes in well drilling sites, as well as auxiliary supply and service plants.
