FIELD: high-power pulse engineering; X-ray research problems. SUBSTANCE: method involves repeated transmission of electron beam through metal target in the form of foil that easily passes it by reflecting it from virtual cathode. Prior to passing beam through target, the latter is converted to plasma condition by means of pulse current, high-power laser beam, etc. This action heats up foil causing its electrical explosion and disintegration with the result that plasma cloud is produced. Beam electrons are repeatedly passed through plasma cloud and heat it. In the process, heat radiation spectrum is produced.
