FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: what is offered is using selenotetra-cysteine (selenium tetracysteinate (IV)) (STC) as a radioprotector. STC shows a relatively high preventive radio protective efficacy level in irradiation in doses close to absolutely lethal. With respect to 30-day survival rate and average life expectancy in mice and rats, STC is similar to cystamine dihydrochloride (a prototype drug) widely known in clinical practice. An effective dose of the declared drug is 13 times less than in the prototype drug. A therapeutic index of STC exceeds the prototype drug in 6 times that testifies to a substantially greater therapeutic width.
EFFECT: radiological efficacy of STC remains throughout 2 days after administration while the prototype drug shows radio protective efficacy for 0,5-3,0 h after administration, and through 24 h does not show specific radiological activity any more; besides, STC is characterised by good tolerance.
