FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of decontaminating a mixture of polychlorophenyls and polychlorobenzens (sovtol) through sulphonation with oleum and then treating the initial mixture with triethanolamine to pH 8, characterised by that sulphonation is carried out in the presence of a sulphonation catalyst in molar ratio sovtol: oleum: catalyst equal to 1:0.8-1.3:0.001-0.05 at temperature 60-110°C for 3 hours, followed by extraction of residual amounts of sovtol with a solvent. The washed sovtol is separated from the solvent via distillation and taken for decontamination and the solvent is taken for extraction.
EFFECT: reduced excess of sulphonation agent and reduction of power consumption by lowering temperature of the process.
