SUBSTANCE: data can be protected on working server in a virtually continuous manner without need for imposing tight restrictions on source applications. The working server can create a complete backup copy of one or more volumes. Backup copies correspond to a first moment in time. The volume filter driver can track data changes using memory bit arrays, while the log file and/or update sequence number log can track the altered files. Volume updates are also complete for (later) moments in time. In the next replication cycle, for example, after every several minutes (someway adjustable parameter) the volume filter driver sends each memory bit array to a physical disk on the working server. The working server then sends updates to a backup copy server which then stores complete copies for applications for the volume for several moments in time.
EFFECT: protection from data loss.
