SUBSTANCE: in the first example of the method of regulating return channel power, the signal-to-total noise ratio is measured for a plurality of mobile stations (step S605). Adjustment of the regulated power is determined for each of the mobile stations based on the measured signal-to-total noise ratio for the mobile station and a given fixed value of the signal-to-total noise ratio on that step for each mobile station, and the adjustment of the regulated power is transmitted to mobile stations (step S610). In the second example of the method of regulating return channel power, one or more signals (step S405) are transmitted to a base station. An indicator of the regulated power adjustment is received with indication of the level of transmission power (step S415). The received adjustment of the regulated power is determined based on the measured signal-to-total noise ratio for one or more transmitted signals and the given fixed maximum value of the signal-to-total noise ratio which is used to adjust the related power of the plurality of mobile stations (step S410).
