FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of measuring permeability of materials involves mounting a sample in a chamber while dividing it into two volumes isolated from each other. The volume of the chamber over the sample is filled with working medium and pressure in the medium over the sample is increased. Upon reaching a given pressure value, change in the pressure of the medium over the sample is measured. The working medium used is a liquid. Pressure is increased by reducing the inner volume of the chamber with liquid until achieving the given pressure value. Change in the inner volume and pressure in the chamber are measured. Upon achieving the given pressure value, changing the inner volume over the sample is stopped and pressure in the chamber over the sample is measured during a given time interval. Permeability of the material at the given pressure is calculated using the formula: where: h is thickness of the sample, S is the contact area between the sample and the liquid, p is the given pressure value, Q(p) is the flow rate of liquid through the sample at pressure p, calculated using the formula: where: ΔV(p)=V(p-δp)-V(p+δp) is change in the volume of the liquid over the sample when pressure drops from p+δp to p-δp, δp is the selected pressure change interval, Δt(p)=t(p-δp)-t(p+δp) is time over which pressure drops from p+δp to p-δp.
EFFECT: faster investigation of permeability of samples, possibility of working with light-weight samples, high accuracy of measuring and obtaining permeability values in a wide range of pressure.
