SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the area of processing vegetables with hard pulp to produce threads for further making of food and decorative items and may be used in cooking, for instance, in cooking treatment of potatoes and root crops for decoration of dishes, and also to make special clothes or elements of such clothes. The method to make decorative and food items from potatoes and root crops includes making a stock of the specified vegetables by means of their cutting and cleaning, cutting vegetable stocks into long threads, processing of vegetable threads is carried out by means of their soaking in a saturated water solution of a preservative, such as table salt or sugar, excessive water solution of the preservative is removed from the surface of vegetable threads with subsequent formation of an item from processed vegetable threads in moist condition by means of knitting, embroidering, weaving or arrangement onto a dish according to a certain shape.
EFFECT: expanded assortment of decorative items from potatoes and root crops with preservation of taste and colour properties.
