FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used when producing iron-silicon flocculants-coagulants and use thereof to treat waste water with different types of contaminants. The method involves mixing iron (II) sulphate, sodium sulphate and sulphuric acid or sodium hydrogen sulphate with an alkaline component consisting of monosil with modulus 1.5-3, with the following ratio of components in pts.wt: 1.5:2.1:0.6:1 or 1.5:1.4:1, respectively. The obtained flocculant-coagulant is a crystalline product with concentration of active components of 45-48%. The method of treating water involves addition of the iron-silicon flocculant-coagulant, bubbling or mechanical agitation, followed by separation of the formed residue. The flocculant-coagulant is used in form of powder or 0.1-1.0% aqueous solution in order to achieve concentration of 0.09-0.8 g per litre of the purified water.
EFFECT: inventions enable to obtain iron-silicon flocculant-coagulant with predetermined ratio of content of iron (III) oxide and silicon oxide in form of a crystalline powder, having a constant composition and high stability for not less than one year, which is cheap to transport and provides efficient purification of water when used.
