FIELD: machine-building industry.
SUBSTANCE: viscous deformation of part surfaces is performed with a tool by carrying it through the area of tool contact with a treated part surface of alternating current. The viscous deformation of part surface is performed to the hardening depth δ, which is equal to an allowance for limiting single-sided part wear if crossing the area of current contact of i1 density to be defined by the formula: where: V - speed of tool movement, (m/s); C - carbon content in steel, %. Finally, the surface layer of the part is hardened to the run-in thickness by crossing area of current contact with density i2, to be defined by the formula: i2=(0.1-0.2)·i1<imin, where: imin - minimum current density when hardened surface layer is formed.
EFFECT: improved run-in operation of steel part friction surfaces and increased wear resistance.
