FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: video sequence is divided into a plurality of segments. The segments are analysed with respect to content and a set of descriptors of the content is associated with the segments. Preferably, additional text information on the segments, script etc, is used to define descriptors of the content. A graph is plotted, which represents interaction between segments, which denotes interaction between segments. Weight coefficients are associated with the interactions so as to present the measure of interaction, e.g., logic correlation between segments. The weight coefficients are based on the calculated descriptors of the content. The measure of relevancy for the segment is determined based on all weight coefficients associated with interactions of said segment. Finally, a summary is generated by selecting the most relevant segments.

EFFECT: automatic generation of a video sequence which is a logic plotline of the initial video sequence but having a shorter duration, while maintaining the initial playback speed.
