FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: microscope has a zone plate as a focusing element, where a microscopic object is illuminated with monochromatic radiation. High linear resolution is achieved by using a zone plate with aperture ratio greater than one. The microscope can employ a modified zone plate with an opaque central part which makes up not less than 50% of the entire surface area of the plate.
EFFECT: achieving high resolution.
