FIELD: polymer chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to composite material with exceptionally high ballistic properties and increased flexibility. Flexible ballistically stable composite material contains combination of poly(alpha-olefine) fibers and matrix resin. Matrix resin is a block-copolymer of conjugated dien and vinylarene applied in form of water composition. The fiber has the strength of at least 35 g/denier and tensile modulus of at least 1,200 g/denier. Composite material has total density ≤100 g/m2 and hardness of less than 2.5 pounds (1.14 kg) for two-layer composite structure and total surface density ≤190 g/m and hardness of less than 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg) for four-layer composite structure. Tear strength or two-layer structure is less than 1.0 pound (0.45 kg) for two-layer composite structure and less than 0.7 pound (0.32 kg) for four-layer composite structure. The invention provides for production of necessary products with reasonable cost.
EFFECT: increased flexibility and exceptionally high ballistic characteristics of composite protective armor.
