FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the area of special metallurgy and may be used for making boiler tubes and steam pipes of medium and large diameter by electroslag remelting. The device contains a movable external crystallization vessel housing a coaxially mounted vertically transposing internal crystallization vessel - a mandrel, a smelting electrode, gamma radiation source to detect the molten metal level located on the metal / slag borderline, a detection assembly to record changes in the gamma radiation flow depending on the molten metal level installed at the same level, in mandrel cavity, and the data processing assembly that enables processing a command for the variation of external crystallization vessel movement according to the signal received from the detection assembly and proportional to the difference of the gamma radiation flow change.
EFFECT: enhanced quality of pipe surface and the structure amd level of the properties of metal.
