FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: plant contains a tray, a vertical column to move the upper trolley with a consumable electrode and the lower trolley with the upper section for hosting and melting the consumable electrode in the slag bath and the lower section for ensuring geometrical parameters of melted ingots, mounted airproof and coaxially one above the other with the mating surface at the boundary surface of slag-metal, and a source and a receiver of radioactive emission installed opposite to each other to control the level of boundary between the slag and the metal. The upper and lower sections of the lower trolley on the side of the melting space have a vertical groove joined airtight when the said sections are coupled and the source and the receiver of radioactive emission are located at a distance of 8-15 mm to the lateral surfaces of the said groove.
EFFECT: reliability and safety of melting of large ingots owing to using radioactive level sensors.
