FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus for contactless measurement of the diameter of articles has two image sensors which form a stereo pair with each other, an elongated light source optically connected with the image sensors, an electronic system for recording and processing video signals and a laser emitter whose spot has the shape of a line on the article to be measured. The laser emitter, whose spot has the shape of a line on the article to be measured, lies relative the stereo pair of two image sensors such that the line of the laser spot is in the plane formed by two principal axes of the image sensors and midway between these axes.
EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of measuring the diameter of articles in continuous production conditions.
