FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: inspected article is exposed to ultrasonic oscillations. The signal reflected from a defect is received and the location of the defect is determined from the difference in time between the emitted and received signal. An ultrasonic sensor is installed in the recess of the upper head of the fishplate such that the acoustic axis of the transducer is oriented in the direction which coincides with the length of the fishplate, and the head of the fishplate is exposed to a surface wave.
EFFECT: providing an ultrasonic method for inspecting fishplates.
