FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway transport and aims at perfecting shunting locomotives. Locomotive traction motors are supplied on electrified track sections from overhead system and storage batteries and electrolyser are charged. Said traction motors are supplied from traction storage batteries and electrochemical generator on unelectrified track sections. In braking, traction motors are changed into generator mode to generate electric power and charge capacitive accumulators that supply electrolyser. In shutting traction motors down, electrochemical generator is charged over into charging storage batteries. On shutting down electrolyser and electrochemical generator, hydrogen pipelines are blown by "cold" water steam. Shunting locomotive has conventional body, reversing traction motors, power plant consisting of first electric power source made up of traction storage battery and low-output second power source. Besides, capacitive accumulators, "cold" water steam source. Electrochemical generator, electrolyser, hydrogen and oxygen accumulators, rectifier unit connected via smoothing filter with traction motors are additionally mounted on locomotive.
EFFECT: thrust augmentation and decreased idle time.
