SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine and veterinary science. A method for probiotic selection involves the stages: (i) isolation of lactic bacteria or bifidus bacteria strains found in mammal fresh milk by selection in a fermented milk culture medium, (ii) selection of those strains of the stage (i) which are transferable in a mammary gland after oral administration, and/or the mammary gland is colonised after oral administration, (iii) selection of those strains of the stage (ii) which can reduce a degree of survival rate and/or a degree of Staphylococcus aureus adhesion on epithelial cells, and (iv) selection of those strains of the stage (iii) which can protect animal against mastitis. The use of the selected probiotic strains as a drug preparation. The composition contains one or more probiotic strains in the frozen, lyophilised or dry from.
EFFECT: invention provides more effective prevention or treatment of mastitis in humans or animals, with no side effects observed when using antibiotics for the same purpose.
