FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machining and may be used for control over state of multi-blade tool cutting edges. Proposed method consists in imaging tool cutting edge on video camera photoreceiver arranged outside of machining zone and illuminating cutting edges of revolving too; by pulse stroboscopic lighting. Illuminator flash frequency is synchronised with tool rpm, while tool cutting edges are imaged on photoreceiver surface. Then, produced images are converted in electric video signal to be digitised, current images are analysed and compared with standard images of cutting edges. Now, position, integrity, wear and its profile, as well as axial and radial play of cutting edges are estimated.
EFFECT: accurate data on character and profile wear without machine tool shutdown.
