FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: metal relates to machining at CNC machine tools and may be used for control over serviceability of composite multi-blade tools. In machining, cut-and-try step is made on steel billet with conversion of analog thermal e.m.f. signal from every cutting edge into digital signal using converter with sampling frequency of, at least, 1 kHz. Digital values of thermal e.m.f. are compared to isolate maximum value. Mean arithmetic thermal e.m.f. is calculated to define tolerable cutting speed in preset constant time intervals. Thereafter, intensity of cutting edge failure with maximum thermal e.m.f. is calculated to define serviceability factor Ks of composite multi-blade tool. In case Ks<1 billet is machined by said tool while with Ks≥1 tool is withdrawn from machining zone and replaced.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of defining tool tolerable utilisation time.
