FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to marine power plants equipped with gas turbine engines. Proposed method consists in using one of driven actuators as braking element. Propulsion unit is selected to make said braking element. Propulsion unit is set to position ''stop''. ACS sends starting signal to gas turbine engine. Parameters of said mode are registered and analysed. In case tolerable spinup parameters are exceeded, actuation system controlled coupling electrically driven valve is switched on to connect propulsion unit to turbine. In case turbine rpm reaches limitation tolerances and their derivatives in time, changing over into free running mode is considered completed.

EFFECT: stable idling and selecting whatever mode of turbine operation.
