SUBSTANCE: invention relates to liquid crystal displays, comprising: a front polarising plate; a liquid crystal cell; a back polarising plate; and an optical element. Components are arranged in a certain order, where the back polarising plate has a higher transmission coefficient than the front polarising plate, the back polarising plate has lower contrast than the front polarising plate, and the optical element, which provides a polarisation effect, has principal transmission coefficient k1 from 80 to 86% and principal transmission coefficient k2 from 2 to 8%.
