FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: planar cylindrical binary microlens, having a rectangular entrance aperture. The refracting surface of the lens is a stepped binary diffraction profile along the optical axis of the lens. The binary microrelief satisfies the equation:
where L is the length of the lens, n0 is the refraction index of the lens material, xm, is the beginning and end of the m-th step of the lens material along the X axis, crosswise with respect to the optical axis Z, w=0,1,2,…,M, M is the number of steps of the binary grating of the lens. Such a lens can be used to focus light in a planar waveguide, matching planar waveguides, designing imaging planar devices etc.
EFFECT: enabling focusing a flat light wave with a narrow spot without using different materials for production thereof.
